How it works...
|
|

To understand how NMASOFT Default Printer Manager works, consider this scenario
(which is one of the possible occasions for you to assign or
re-assign default printer to mass number of computers).
You are an administrator of a Windows 2000 based network,
which have 3 computer rooms; D10, D11 and D12.
You have got two printers; PRINTER01 and PRINTER02.
Your organization has asked you to attach PRINTER01
to room D10 and D11, and attach PRINTER02 to D12.
Please see the illustration shown beside.
Now you've setup your network according to the need of your organization. However,
there is one problem presents with Windows 2000 networks. Windows 2000 has a feature
that can "remember" the settings of each user by saving the settings in the
profile of the user.
This creates a problem on the network because when someone is using
computer in D12, that user will be utilizing (or perhaps made default) the printer PRINTER02 and
Windows 2000 will be "remembered" in that user profile.

Next time, when user come back to use a computer, he or she choose to use a computer in
different room (i.e D10). And when that user tries to print to the default printer, all the documents
will be sent to PRINTER02 instead of PRINTER01 (where it supposed to go). That is because
Windows 2000 has "remembered" the last setting of the user.
Additionally if the user does not quickly notice
the problem (which most users don't) , the user will try to
print again and again assuming that the print job wasn't sent to
the the printer successfully, while all of his or her print
jobs were successfully printed on PRINTER02
(wrong printer, which is located in room D12).
This is where NMASOFT Default Printer Manager comes in. NMASOFT Default Printer Manager can force printers
in your network to be attached to specific rooms based on your
organization's needs, regardless of the problems associated
with Windows 2000 global user profiles. With NMASOFT Default Printer Manager you can attach printers to one or more rooms
and they are guaranteed to be remain attached to it.
